Craig Custance of The Athletic asked a panel of NHL related personnel to rank all of the starting goalies in the NHL on a scale of 1 (the best) to 5 (the worst).
Henrik Lundqvist checked in at #10 on the list with an average score of 2.20, up from his score of 1.85 in 2016 and his numbers from 2015 (1.04) and 2014 (1.00 - perfect score). (The Athletic )
A coach, as part of the panel, said that Lundqvist has "slipped a little" while another said that he can still be "great" but that it's "overemphasized" when he is. (The Athletic )
One GM noted that while Lundqvist is aging and struggled at times last season, he faced a lot of "high quality shots" and said "you see the defense he played behind last year?" (The Athletic )
Lundqvist was ranked as the 8th best goalie in the NHL over the summer.

Adam Rotter: Lundqvist is still a top ten goalie and I think that you can argue he fits anywhere in the 5-10 range. He can still be the guy for the Rangers as he was against Montreal, but things are so much easier for Lundqvist and the Rangers when he doesn't have to be the guy. It's easier when the Rangers are smart with the puck and get out of the zone cleanly to go on offense. Most of the changes the Rangers made this summer were in service of that kind of goal and if they can do that and keep the puck out of their own end, that should hopefully help Henrik Lundqvist stay fresh and make them a better team.
