Sabres forward Jack Eichel spent the 20141-15 season at BU under coach David Quinn.
That season, Eichel had 26 goals and 45 assists en-route to winning the Hobey Baker Award and helping lead BU to the National Championship game.
Eichel spoke of Quinn and said that he cares about his players and has their best interest in mind.
He added, "I was able to learn a lot from him, not just on the ice but becoming a man and how to handle things. He was a great guy to be around." (MSG Network)
On Eichel, Quinn told a story about what Eichel was doing during a meeting before a game against Colgate. (MSG Network)
Quinn said, " "I like everybody looking at me when I'm talking. 6-7 minutes into it he hasn't looked at me once and then right before I was about to end the talk, he picks his skate up and starts looking at his skate and I wanted to kill him. I bit my tongue, didn't say anything because we had a game at 4PM." (MSG Network)
He continued, "The next day we go to Dartmouth, same set up, 11:30AM meeting, and Jack is walking into the meeting and I asked him to sit for a minute and said 'let me ask you a question. If you knocked on the coaches room door and talked to me for 6-7 minutes and I never looked at you once and then right before you were getting done I picked my skate up and looked at it, what would you think? He said, 'I think that you wouldn't care what I am talking about. I said, that is exactly right, it's exactly what you did in the team meeting yesterday. I knew he didn't do it on purpose but I will say that from that point on, the rest of the season, he was a lot more attentive in meetings and those are the things, as you grow the hockey ladder, that guys have to get better at."
