Jesper Fast returned to the Rangers lineup on Monday after missing time with a quad strain.
He played 12:29, had the primary assist on Paul Carey's goal, two shots on goal, 1 shot that missed the net, 2 hits, 1 giveaway and 1 blocked shot.
Fast said that his goal was to return for the Winter Classic and that he pushed hard hard during the Christmas break to recover. (NY Post)
Alain Vigneault said that he didn't expect on Sunday that Fast would play but that he continued to feel good, spoke with the doctors and said that he was "good to go" to return. (NHL)
Fast played 3:51 in the first, 5:09 on the second and 3:29 in the third with 9:30 at even strength and 2:59 on the PK.
Pierre McGuire said during the broadcast that the fourth line was the best for the Rangers.
Asked about getting Fast back in the lineup, Vigneault said on Monday, "he is such a low maintenance player, and I have said this many times, any guy up front that wants to know how to play the system and how to do the little thing right, all you have to do is watch him. Watch 20 minutes of Jesper Fast playing hockey on the forecheck, backcheck, wall, boards, stick position. He just understands the game and gets it. Lately he has been able to make some pretty good plays that have led to goals. If we can get a little bit more of that offensive contribution, offensive side that I think he has, he is a very important player for our team."
