Kevin Hayes returned to the lineup after missing 6 games and picked up a goal, an assist and a plus three rating.
Hayes skated with JT Miller and Mats Zuccarello and scored the opening goal and assisted on Ryan McDonagh's first goal of the season.
He played 17:20, had 4 shots on goal, 2 shot that missed the net, 3 faceoff wins and 4 faceoff losses.
Hayes played 5:17 in the first, 6:03 in the second and 6 minutes in the third with 48 seconds of his 17:20 coming on the PK.
Alain Vigneault spoke about Hayes after the game and said, "having Kevin back tonight and playing the way he did with JT and Zuccy was a big boost for us. He started off carrying the play, made some good plays with the puck and it was real good for our team and we got a win."
Hayes said that his legs felt heavy at the start but that Miller and Zuccarello helped him and he was able to gain confidence with some early offensive chances. (NYR)
Adam Rotter: The Rangers have been thin at center all season so it makes a huge difference when they can get someone like Hayes back in the middle. Hayes is getting better in his role as a shutdown type of center and if he can play that role and create offense, he can hopefully become more of the consistent player that the Rangers need him to be.
