Since returning to the lineup on Saturday, Matt Puempel has:
- Saturday against Nashville: 10:52, 1 shot attempt, 0 on goal, 1 hit, 8:56 at even strength, 1:56 on PP. 3:59 in the first, 4:04 in the second, 2:49 in the third.
- Sunday against New Jersey: 7:46, 2 shot attempts, 0 on goal, 1 hit, 1 takeaway, 5:36 at even strength, 2:10 on PP, cross-checking penalty. He played 3:21 in the first, 3:02 in the second, 1:23 in the third.
In the two games combined, he was on the ice for 11 shot attempts for and 17 against. (Natural Stat Trick)
In his 8 games with the Rangers, Puempel has 1 goal, 5 shots on goal and an average of 9:14 per game
Puempel, a left shot, replaced Brandon Pirri, a right shot, in the lineup and on the PP the past two days.
Alain Vigneault said that Pirri's game had slipped and that he wasn't getting the same looks he had at other points.
He said that Pirri needs to improve his consistency at 5 on 5 and on the PP.
Pirri has 1 goal and 1 assist in the past 12 games with 20 shots on goal.
Adam Rotter: I like Puempel and his potential offensive upside but I think Brandon Pirri will return to the Rangers lineup tomorrow against the Penguins. Pirri was signed to be a PP guy and it will be interesting to see how he bounces back after being scratched. The Rangers need his shot on the PP and hopefully when he comes back in, if it is tomorrow or another night, he takes it more.
