Jeff Gorton was asked about the league's expansion to Las Vegas in 2017-18 and how the looming expansion draft may impact decisions he makes now.
Gorton said that expansion doesn't impact "everything" they are doing but it's something that they have to be "mindful" of.
He added that the Rangers will lose just one player due to expansion so, "we can't disrupt everything that we are doing and to make a bunch of trades to satisfy these requirements."
Gorton continued, "I think we know what is going on, we have laid it out with different scenarios and each move we make we will pay attention to it but I can't see us making a move just because of the expansion draft."
As of today the Rangers would be required to protect Henrik Lundqvist, Marc Staal and Dan Girardi due to their no-move clauses. The Rangers will have the option to protect 7 other forwards and 1 other defenseman or 6 more skaters. (General Fanager)
