In his first game in Nashville, Jimmy Vesey played 13:09, had 1 shot on goal, 5 shot attempts and was booed and serenaded with "Vesey Sucks" when he touched the puck.
Vesey told Dave Maloney after the game that he was focused on keeping things simple and not letting any "external distractions" bother him.
Alain Vigneault said that this was the most hostile of the three environments Vesey has played in, Nashville, Boston, Buffalo, but that he doesn't think it bothered him "one bit." (MSG)
Vigneault said that the decision to start the shootout with Vesey wasn't about "rubbing it in" towards the Predators but that he was told Vesey was practicing breakaways this morning and scored on all three of his attempts. (MSG)
He said that he was told after the game that Vesey scored on the "exact same move that he worked on this morning and it paid off. He is a pretty mature kid and he just plays hockey." (MSG)
Vesey confirmed that he had been working on breakaways in the morning and said that he normally goes with his backhand but has been working on faking his backhand and going to the forehand. (MSG)
Henrik Lundqvist praised Vesey's maturity and Ryan McDonagh said that most players would "relish" the opportunity Vesey was in. (NY Post)
Joe Micheletti praised Vesey's "moxie" and called him a "heck of a good hockey player" who seems "ready to break out."
Adam Rotter: Well last night ended Vesey's tour of the teams/cities that felt spurned by him. If any of it was weighing on him it never showed on the ice. He's had some ups and downs this year but has been really strong since missing that game last week.
