Jimmy Vesey skated with the extras yesterday at Rangers practice and while Alain Vigneault said that he hadn't firmly decided on his lineup he said that Vesey's spot in practice would be an "indication" on tonight.
He said that Vesey had been playing well but that Tuesday in San Jose he had an "off night" which Vigneault said was "being polite"
Vigneault said that it wasn't a big deal and that "there is no doubt in my mind that for us going into the playoffs that Jimmy is going to be in the lineup. Maybe not there for the next game but he will be there in the playoffs."
Dave Maloney said recently that Vesey sometimes plays better if he feels he doesn't have to defer to a more veteran linemate like Rick Nash or Mats Zuccarello. (MSG)
Vesey has 1 goal and 3 assists in the past 20 games, with 25 shots on goal and an average of 12:55 per game.
Against San Jose, Vesey was a minus two in 10:05 with only one shot attempt, that missed the net.
When Vesey was on the ice at 5 on 5 the Rangers were minus 11 in shot attempts.
Adam Rotter: The numbers do not indicate that Vesey had been one of the Rangers better forwards over the past few weeks. Looking just at the numbers you would think that he was struggling but he was all over the offensive zone, creating chances, using his speed and size and like someone who was really starting to learn how to play in the NHL.
It's also interesting that Vesey has played in all but one game this season and he missed that game because of injury. This will be his first healthy scratch in a year where he has doubled up on the amount of games he played the prior year. Overall he's had a good rookie season and, to me, lived up to the hype and potential that came with him. He's going to be a big part of the Rangers moving forward and maybe as soon as the playoffs.
