Jimmy Vesey will play his first NHL game in Nashville tonight.
Vesey was a third round pick of the Predators in 2012 but didn't sign with Nashville, had his rights traded to Buffalo and then signed with the Rangers.
The Predators were holding a spot on their roster for Vesey after he finished at Harvard but Vesey told the team on March 23 that he was intending to test free agency rather than sign in Nashville.
Nashville GM David Poile said that the news was a "shocker" and that up until that phone call in March he "thought for sure" that Vesey would sign with the Preds. (Tennessean)
Poile added that he thought Vesey was getting "bad advice" and noted that signing with Nashville, as opposed to free agency, would be a better financial situation for him. (Tennessean)
Vesey said that the reaction from the fans in Nashville will probably be "more magnified" than it was in Buffalo and that all he can do is just "block it out and play." (NY Post)
He said that he has no animosity towards the Predators organization and that he is "very happy with where I am." (NY Post)
