Alain Vigneault said recently that with how the Rangers are set up right now they are a better team with JT Miller playing center. (NY Post)
Vigneault said that Miller has a lot of belief in himself and needs to play well for the Rangers to be successful, "he is a big part of our team wherever he plays." (NY Post)
On playing Miller in the middle, Vigneault said on 11/22 that he didn't mind him there, his defensive positioning was good and that he kept things "high percentage."
Miller said that he and the coaching staff agree that playing the wing better suits him because of his abilities to skate, shoot and forecheck but is "more than fine" with playing center if the coaches think that will have bigger benefit for the team. (NY Post)
He noted that whether he is at center or wing he still needs to play a 200ft game. (NY Post)
Vigneault said on 11/25 of Miller that he is starting to better understand the 200ft game and that to have a good career in the NHL you need to understand both sides of the rink. (NYR)
He said "JT is getting better at it. He has been a good player for us and we need him to continue to improve and be a good player." (NYR)
In the last five games, Miller has 1 goal, 2 assists, 8 shots on goal, an average of 17:02 per game and has won 49% of his faceoffs.
Dave Maloney said, after the Rangers beat Carolina, that the jury is still out on Miller as a center and that while he can play all three forward positions, sometimes he holds onto the puck too long and tries to force things. (MSG)
