7/30/17 | Kevin Shattenkirk said that he is "excited" about all of the pressure that will be placed upon him after signing with the Rangers.
He said that being from the area he understands things from the fans point of view and that he "welcomes it."
Shattenkirk said that this past season brought a lot of pressure to him as did the trade to the Capitals but he feels that he "prevailed" and came through it "pretty well."
Shattenkirk said that he likes the idea of being able to play most nights in front of friends and family and having that "constant pressure is good and I welcome that. It will only help me to grow as a player and handle the adversity when things maybe aren't going so well.
- "no matter where you guy you are trying to win your team a Stanley Cup and there is no better to place to try and do it than New York."
- "New York is New York and for however critical the fanbase is and the media they are just as happy to see you win and your legacy will live on forever."
Adam Rotter: Shattenkirk knows what comes with the territory when you are the big signing in New York, and what is expected, and seems to have a good handle on it. Understanding it as a fan and then being thrust into the middle of it are probably two very different things but it looks like he is hoping to use the pressure and scrutiny as a way to raise his game and be the best player he can be.
