10/18/17 | Alain Vigneault said on Wednesday that Kevin Shattenkirk is putting a lot of pressure on himself and that he likes players who are accountable and "demanding" of themselves.
Vigneault said that Shattenkirk is still adjusting to being with the Rangers but he is closing in on knowing and understanding about 90% of what the Rangers want to do and how they want to play.
Shattenkirk said that he has been better the past couple of games and that he likes how his pairing with Marc Staal is playing. (NY Post)
Asked about what led to the tying goal last night, Shattenkirk said that he was reacting as a defensemen would and realized what Sidney Crosby was doing, waiting for him to touch the puck, a little bit "too late." (NY Post)
Shattenkirk has two goals and four assists in 7 games, a minus 6 rating, 4 points on the power play and an average of 21:41 per game.
He has 13 giveaways and when he is on the ice at 5 on 5 the Rangers only have 46% of the shot attempts, 33% of the goals scored and 42% of the scoring chances. (Natural Stat Trick)
Adam Rotter: Power Play Kevin Shattenkirk has been pretty good, mostly as advertised, as the Rangers have had a relatively strong start to the season with the man advantage. Non-PP Shattenkirk is still a bit more of a work in progress, as the whole team is, and looking to find consistency and chemistry with a partner. He is 7 games into his Rangers career and this is almost certainly not how he expected his first weeks with the Rangers would go. As the team settles down and plays better, he will probably start making more an impact at 5 on 5 and start to make more an impact outside of the power play.
