6/10/18 | 3:05PM: Elliotte Friedman writes at Sportsnet that it's "expected" that Ruff will remain with the Rangers as part of Quinn's staff. (Sportsnet)
6/9/18 | According to Larry Brooks, David Quinn and the Rangers are working towards hiring a coaching staff, in addition to goalie coach Benoit Allaire, but nothing is believed to be "imminent." (NY Post)
Brooks notes that Lindy Ruff, who joined the Rangers as an assistant last year, is still "in the mix" to possibly remain with the team. (NY Post)
Joe McDonald wrote that Quinn is "building his coaching staff and hopes to have the pieces in place soon." (The Athletic)
Joe Sacco, currently an assistant with the Bruins, was the head coach of Colorado during Quinn's time with the organization.
Adam Rotter: We know that Quinn will have at least one assistant with NHL head coaching experience and that could be Ruff. Maybe the Rangers lure Sacco, or Todd Richards - who coached with Quinn at the World Championships - to be an "associate" coach. Current Panthers assistant, and Islanders coach, Jack Capuano is a long-time friend of Quinn's and could be an option as well as any number of coaches Quinn might know from his time around the NHL or connections to Boston-area hockey.
Ruff obviously has the experience needed to join Quinn's staff as well as a familiarity with the players that will return. The Rangers, from an organizational standpoint, could have cut Ruff loose along with Scott Arniel and Darryl Williams but they kept him around. I'd expect Ruff to be part of the Rangers organization in some way next season, unless he becomes the coach of the Islanders, either as an assistant/associate coach or something in management.
