From MSG:  Madison Square Garden announced today the greatest moments in the Arena’s more than 130 year history that will be celebrated and commemorated through two unique exhibits  – “Garden 366” and “Defining Moments” – that will be unveiled as part of Phase II of The Garden’s historic three-year, top-to-bottom Transformation this Fall. Since 1879, The Garden’s four Arena complexes have played host to some of the greatest moments in the history of sports, music, entertainment and politics. With the “Garden 366” visual retrospective and “Defining Moments” special exhibits, the Garden will showcase through amazing photos and artifacts, the moments that have solidified its position place as The World’s Most Famous Arena.

  • 1/3/73: Eddie Giacomin becomes all-time Rangers leader with 41 career shutout
  • 1/4/97: Wayne Gretzky ties Phil Goyette for Rangers then record of four assists in a period
  • 1/11/11: Henrik Lundqvist becomes the first Rangers goalie to have assists in three straight games
  • 1/12/06: Mark Messier night
  • 1/20/95: Rangers raise 1994 Stanley Cup banner
  • 1/22/94: Mike Richter wins all-star game MVP at MSG.

  • 4/16/92: Brian Leetch sets the Rangers record for most points in a season by a defenseman with a total of 100

  • 4/23/72: Rangers defeat the Blackhawks and advance to the Stanley Cup Final with first ever four-game playoff sweep
  • 4/29/71: Pete Stemkowski's fabled triple OT playoff goal beats the Blackhawks 3-2 in game six of the Eastern Conference Finals
  • 5/7/12: Brad Richards' game tying goal with :06.6 sends Eastern Conference series Game 5 vs Capitals into OT, where Marc Staal's goal wins it.

  • 6/4/94: Garden hosts viewing party on the Arena floor, attended by over 10,000 for game three of the Stanley Cup finals in Vancouver, Rangers win 5-1
