8/18/17 | The 2017-18 Sports Forecaster magazine has the Rangers finishing first in the Metro Division, winning the Presidents' Trophy, the Jack Adams for Alain Vigneault but not reaching the Stanley Cup Final.
They project a Stanley Cup final of Nashville over Toronto.
Over the past few seasons, The Sports Forecaster has projected the Rangers to finish:
- 2015-16 - 3rd in Metro
- 2014-15 - 5th in Metro
- 2013-14 - 5th in Metro
Adam Rotter: Last season the Rangers were picked by many to miss the playoffs, after being run out of the playoffs by the Penguins, but this season it seems like most will have the Rangers finishing around where they did last year. I don't think it's impossible for the Rangers to win the Metro but for them to do that we would likely see a year from Henrik Lundqvist without many low moments and big breakouts from players like Kevin Hayes, Mika Zibanejad, Jimmy Vesey and probably Pavel Buchnevich. To finish first would also mean that maybe the Penguins finally deal with the hangover of playing all of those games the past two years and that the Capitals, who have 238 points the past two years, also struggle somewhat. I think that ultimately the Rangers will finish in 3rd or 4th in the Metro but that the standings will be a lot closer between the top four teams than they were last season.
