In his preseason debut on Wednesday, Henrik Lundqvist allowed 5 goals on 22 shots in 26:37.
Lundqvist said after the game that he was "hoping for a better feeling" and that you try to look for timing, good movement, but I definitely have some work to do here." (NYR Game Notes)
He added that you need to be "patient in the process" and that if he works hard "things will start to come." (NYR Game Notes)
David Quinn said after the game, "I felt bad for him because they had some quirky goals, the ice was not great. One of the reasons they took it to us for the first two periods was that they understood that and kept it simple and that every time we had the puck we tried to make a heroic play or a play we should have made a better decision with. (NYR)
Adam Rotter: It was game one of the preseason so there is some rust expected but the Rangers didn't do much to help Henrik early on. Still, there were a couple of shots he should have stopped and he knows that. He's likely to get at least two more appearances with at least one of them being a full game. One of the things that will take time for Henrik is how he works with the defense and gets used to playing in the system that David Quinn wants to instill. That will be a process, as it was when Alain Vigneault became coach and Lundqvist struggled mightily early on before finding his game. No one wants to win more than Henrik and, like always, he will put in the work to get to where he needs to be.
