Marc Staal played 25:33 last night including 19:30 in the second and third period after Ryan McDonagh left the game.
Staal played 6:03 in the first, 9:25 in the second and 10:05 in the third and had one shot on goal, 2 shots that were blocked, 2 that missed the net and he blocked 3 shots.
Joe Micheletti said that Staal was "simply fantastic" and added on the post game show that it was his "best game of the season" and that he looked like "vintage Marc Staal."
Sam Rosen said that Staal played and "outstanding defensive game and "stepped up big time."
Larry Brooks wrote that Staal "excelled" in final two periods while replacing McDonagh. (NY Post)
Adam Rotter: The Rangers are a different team if they get that Marc Staal in the playoffs. Staal looked like his old self and if he is at that level, or close to it, the Rangers defense is not only miles better but deeper and more apt to take on a team with two scoring lines. Due to his concussion, eye injury and various other injuries Staal is likely never going to be the player he was destined to become when he was an All-Star in 2011, but he can still be a good and effective player for the Rangers throughout his contract. It's only one game but Staal showed that he can still be that player and that is what the Rangers need.
