Matt Puempel has cleared waivers and is being sent to Hartford.
On why Puempel was put on waivers, Jeff Gorton said yesterday "with Matt it's a case of, I think Carey played well and earned a spot. I think Matt was okay but didn't stand out enough with what we were looking for. The PKing played a part in it. For him, we will see what happens, he is on waivers today and if he clears we will do everything we can to get his game at top level and see if we can get him back here."
Puempel is on a one-year, one-way deal that pays him $725,000 at both the NHL and AHL.
Puempel last played in the AHL in 2015-16 when he had 17 goals and 13 assists in 34 games.
Adam Rotter: Puempel, 24, was beat out by Paul Carey to be the 12th forward, for now, and the likely 13th forward when Jesper Fast returns. He has proven that he can produce at the AHL level but has not shown he can produce, consistently or inconsistently, as an NHLer. He has the chance to be the first Ranger called up when an injury strikes but he needs to be better in Hartford for that to be the case.
