2:25PM: Alain Vigneault announced today that Matt Puempel will return to the Rangers lineup against the Islanders tomorrow and take the place of Pavel Buchnevich. (NYR)
Vigneault said that Puempel is a young player and that he wants to get him back into the lineup. (NYR)
Puempel last played for the Rangers on 2/5 against Calgary and has been a healthy scratch the past four games.
He has six goals and 1 assist in 18 games with the Rangers.
Adam Rotter: In taking Pavel Buchnevich out of the equation, it's interesting to see the Rangers go with Matt Puempel over Brandon Pirri for this spot. Puempel is a young player and a former first round pick with potential, but he also is close to reaching the requirements to be exposed for the expansion draft. I think that getting Puempel to the requirements is a side part of this decision as the Rangers probably want all of the flexibility they can when it comes to the expansion draft.
