Lombardi has an offer from a team in Europe. (Elliotte Friedman)
From the CBA, "Unconditional Waivers" means the process by which the rights to a Player are offered to all other Clubs, without a right of recall at a Waiver price of one-hundred and twenty- five dollars ($125) prior to a Club exercising its right to terminate a Player's SPC pursuant to Article 13 of this Agreement and Paragraph 13(a) of the SPC.
Lombardi signed a two-year contract with the Rangers for $1.6 million over the summer.

11:16AM: Matthew Lombardi will be placed on unconditional waivers by the Rangers, according to Renaud Lavoie (Twitter, Oct. 10).
Lombardi has refused to go to the AHL, Lavoie said.
"He'll probably go back [to] Switzerland," Lavoie wrote.
Adam Rotter: Well this experiment didn't work out the way the team hoped. It was a worthy chance to take and one that will have no impact on the Rangers, a spot will open up on their reserve list, as the contract will be terminated. His money didn't count against the cap after he was placed on waivers and now they won't have to pay him. Lombardi has speed and a history of being a decent center who could play on special teams. It didn't work out, the Rangers open up a spot and Lombardi can return to Europe.
