Pressed about whether he was referring to players like Sean Avery and Erik Christensen , Brooks says that Tortorella responded "yes...yes"
Avery is expected to skate with John Mitchell and JT Miller and Christensen with Carl Hagelin and Christian Thomas.
Neither of those two are in the mock lineups that I keep coming up with. I think that one of them is definitely going to be a spare player, but what happens with the other is the big question. Both have their strengths and their weaknesses that we have seen through the years. Avery can skate, provide energy and draw penalties. He also takes penalties, hasn't agitated as well lately and is offsides more than any player in the history of the league.
If Christensen was a consistent player, and could get his mind straight, the Rangers probably would have had their number one center already and not signed Brad Richards. Instead Christensen is streaky but posses good play making skills and provide nice depth as a healthy scratch. There is more upside with Christensen, but more consistency and impact on a game by game basis with Avery. Tonight will be very interesting for them.
