12:PM |The Rangers have claimed Adam Cracknell on waivers from the Dallas Stars.
Cracknell, 32, has played in one game this season and scored 10 goals and 6 assists in 69 games last season.
He has played in 204 career games, scoring 21 goals, 22 assists and averaged 10:15 per game.
Cracknell played last season for Lindy Ruff in Dallas.
Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock said last week that Cracknell was getting into the lineup after having "really amped it up in the last few practices." (Dallas News)
He is currently on a one-year, one-way deal worth $675,000.
Described as a "gritty" forward, Cracknell found his way into the Dallas lineup last season after the Stars were beset with injuries up front. (Dallas News)
Lindy Ruff said last season that Cracknell had been a "nice surprise" and had done a good job getting to the net. (Dallas News)
Tyler Seguin said that Cracknell does "the little things," is a positive guy in the room and on the ice, makes smart plays and "likes to compete." (Dallas News)
Seguin added "he brings a lot to the room." (Dallas News)
Cracknell played center and wing for Dallas in the bottom six last season and saw brief time, 30ish seconds per game, as a penalty killer.
1:24PM: Scott Burnside tweets that Dallas will look to "get faster" with the player they call up for Cracknell.
Adam Rotter: It would seem as if the Rangers picked up Cracknell for a variety of reasons. He's cheap, can play in the bottom six, kill penalties and reportedly play both center and wing. He would seem to be the immediate replacement for Filip Chytil and could be in the running for the 13th forward spot once Jesper Fast returns. It would seem to be a move the Rangers made to fill a specific role and not one they wanted to fill with someone in Hartford. I would imagine that his history with Lindy Ruff played a big factor and that the Rangers believe that Cracknell can help. It's a pretty low risk move for the Rangers in the event that Cracknell doesn't work out then the Rangers will just put him on waivers and he will either get claimed, go to Hartford or be traded.
