Jimmy Vesey said that he believes he can be a 20-25 goal scorer in the NHL and that he could get there this season. (Newsday)
Vesey said that he wants to be a "factor every night" and that David Quinn told him that he is counting on him to "have a good year and be better than last year." (Newsday)
- Vesey has been searching for consistency and signed a two-year contract over the summer.
Quinn said on Friday 9/28 Vesey got better as camp went along, had his best game against the Flyers and added "with Jimmy it's more the mental piece of it and feeling that he can be a real good player at this level."
On Sunday 9/30, Quinn said that Vesey "is a guy that can contribute offensively for sure, he scored 17 goals and there are definitely more in there. I think he is capable of being a well-rounded player, a smart player. I think he battles self confidence. I think his last two practices have been his best practices since camp started. He can be a well rounded player for us." (NYR)
Jeff Gorton said on Monday that this is a "huge year" for Vesey to have an impact.
He added, "we have moved some bodies out and the opportunity is there for them and he needs to go to the net and be physical and get dirty and when he does that and play with emotion he is a very effective player and Jimmy knows that and I would look for him to have a big year in front of him."
Quinn said on Friday 10/5, while talking about Vesey's time from the start of, training camp, "Boy has he made strides. One of the things that I've said about him is that he fights confidence and you gotta, I thought that our responsibility was, through the preseason, was to play through tough times. There is a great player in there and he needs to believe that there are coaches and management that believe it, we gotta get him to believe it too. Once that happens, good things are going to happen for him and us." (NYR)
