6/16/18 |Jeff Gorton told the Boston Globe that Jimmy Vesey needed a bit of a "fresh start" and one of the players that Gorton thinks David Quinn will help.
Gorton said that Vesey needs an "opportunity to play a little more and show what he has . . . so I will be curious to see how David will help Jimmy." (Boston Globe)
Gorton said that it was an "obvious choice" for the team to hire David Quinn because of his past coaching at different levels and developing players.
Vesey is an RFA, with arbitration rights, on July 1.
Alain Vigneault said at the end of this past season that Vesey needed to find his identity as a player.
In Vesey's time at Harvard, he had 4 goals and 5 assists in five games against Quinn's BU teams.
7/19/18 |Adam Rotter: Vesey is definitely one of the guys the Rangers are hoping David Quinn will be able to get the best out of. He has a two-year deal and is entering his third NHL season so, Quinn or not, a lot was going to be expected of Vesey this year. If he can find his consistency offensively, score 20-25 goals, use his size and skill to make plays offensively and play enough of a two-way game, then he can certainly be another big piece of this rebuild. If not, I'd imagine that the Rangers move Vesey at some point to give him a complete fresh start and acquire a player in a similar situation. Vesey should get the opportunity this year to play a big role and it will be on him to see if he can start converting a lot of his potential into reality.
