6/26/18 | Rangers GM Jeff Gorton was asked Monday about the Rangers back up goalie situation and said that they are still trying to figure that situation out.

Gorton said that the Rangers will look at the UFA market and see who is available and at what price but that the Rangers also like Alexander Georgiev and Marek Mazanec as internal options.

Mazanec was just signed to a one-year, two-way contract after spending last year in Hartford.

Georgiev has two-year remaining on his entry-level deal and was 4-4-1 in his call up with the Rangers last year.

Potential UFA options for the Rangers could include Jonathan Bernier, Chad Johnson, Cam Ward, Anton Khudobin, Michael Hutchinson or Eddie Lack.

Adam Rotter: Mazanec is interesting as an option and as great as Alexander Georgiev was, I think it's probably best for his development to be the starter in Hartford. Mazanec has some NHL experience and certainly showed well enough to be brought back and considered a potential back up to Henrik Lundqvist. Externally there are a lot of interesting names and guys who at one point or another were brought somewhere to be starters or share time. With Benoit Allaire still part of the organization you have to think that the Rangers are an attractive option as goalies look to possibly reinvigorate their career in the way that Allaire helped Cam Talbot and Antti Raanta.
