Richards often joked about leaving Kazan and returning to North America before suffering a sports hernia in December that ended his season.
Lecavalier and Richards both stressed how tough it was to play for a coach and team that only spoke minimal English.
Richards said that the only word he was able to pick up from his coach was "shaiba" which means puck.
Of the injury that sent Richards home, he told the CBC "It has gotten to the point that it hurts when I cough. I want it checked out right away because it has gotten bad."
