In his post game press conference last night, John Tortorella told the Daily News, that Stralman is coming along in his game:
"I think as the minutes have gone his way and he’s understood how hard we want him to play as far as defending – because he does have offense, he can make a play – but we wanted him to be stiffer defensively and he’s certainly done that for us, protects pucks. Because I didn’t know who the hell he was when we got him, and when I first saw him I didn’t like him, but he’s certainly - as the minutes got on - he’s certainly answered and raised his level.”More on the defense at NHL.com.
Stralman is a plus seven this season and was a combined minus 28 over the last two seasons.
classic Tortorella saying that he didn't like Stralman when he first saw him. He is playing over 15 minutes a game at even strength and has been at 20 minutes a night since the injury to Steve Eminger and even displaying a bit of physical play that seemed foreign to him in the past. He, like everyone else, has bought into the system and stepped into a role that the Rangers didn't map out for him.
