Now Commenting On:

In an interview with the NY Post, John Tortorella said that he won't let any of his players use the lockout as an excuse during the regular season.

Torts said, "We will not use this as an excuse. We’re better than that. We are not going to allow this to stop us from getting to where we want to go.”

He added that he doesn't want this to disrupt or interrupt the positive swing that the organization has been on.

Tortorella reiterated how he sent a letter to the team last summer about how the coming season was going to have distractions like Europe, the Winter Classic and HBO and how none of that could be used as an excuse for the coming season.

In 2005, Tortorella told Tom Jones of the SP Times that when his players return they better "be ready."

Adam Rotter: This interview was a nice strategic move by Torts. He can't communicate directly with his players, do to NHL rules, so he does so in the paper and emphasizes the core message of no excuses. He wanted to use this as a reminder to his players of what will be expected of them when the season starts and to get themselves in top gear if they have been slacking at all since the lockout started.
