Malone didn't skate this past weekend or yesterday with a hip issue while Lombardi was slated to play tonight but hurt his groin during practice yesterday. Vigneault thinks that Malone might play in one of the games this coming weekend.
Vigneault said that he will have a better idea of Lombardi's status today but added that the situation is "unfortunate" because the Rangers need to see him on the ice.
Vigneault added that it was "definitely" a concern that Lombardi and Malone are struggling with injuries in camp and while neither player got hurt on purpose, they need to play to be able to make the team.
Adam Rotter: I think the team will give Malone a bit more leash to make the team than Lombardi. Malone has more size and at least in one game seemed better prepared to return to the NHL. They both could start in Hartford which has no impact on the cap and the only issue would be if someone claimed them on waivers which is probably unlikely.
