Tavares, 20, will be an RFA after the season. He has a cap hit of $3.75 million this season.
He had 29 goals and 38 assists last season.
The Islanders lease with the Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015, so the Islanders should have a plan soon of what is next for them since an arena needs to be constructed. Tavares sounds like he is committed to the Islanders, but is he committed enough to sign long term without a guarantee of where he will play? I think that he signs short-term, a one or two-year deal that will give more time to the Isles to figure out what will happen with them.
