If the referendum fails, Brooks writes, the Islanders will have an even tougher time getting players to commit to signing with the Islanders since they won't know where they will end up in 2015 after their lease expires.
Brooks thinks that if it doesn't pass then the Islanders should try to negotiate a buyout of the remaining four years of their lease if there is a city ready to take them.

I really have no idea what is going to happen. I would think that Islander fans would go out and vote for it, but it seems like the Nassau County guy has already screwed up a little by not having all the details for the county money people. Who knows. The Islanders are doing what they can to stay, we will see if they do.
