Glen Sather agreed and said on media day, “he has been terrific and I think he is acting as captain, a leader in the room and on the ice, great guy. I really can’t make any comments about what will happen in the summer. If we win the Stanley Cup, lose it, the decisions is something that comes later in the summer and he is with the Rangers and I plan on having him with the Rangers.”
Richards said that his experience and understanding what was needed made his ascension to that role easy. (ESPN NY)
Henrik Lundqvist said, "Brad Richards has been outstanding this season on and off the ice and accepted the role of more responsibility and a lot of credit to Brad." (Fox Sports)

Adam Rotter: Losing Richards is a big blow to the leadership group but it just means that other guys have to step up. Marty St. Louis has the same experience as Richards, Ryan McDonagh has become a leader and likely the next one to wear the "C", Dan Girardi leads by example, Marc Staal still has an "A" on his jersey and if Dom Moore is back he provides a big boost. The Rangers still have those players as well as their foundation and backbone in Henrik Lundqvist who leads with everything that he does and says. There will be growing pains without Richards but they still have leaders and the core of this team has been together for a while.
