10/13/16 | On Rick Nash, Vigneault said on Thursday "I would say that he gave the indication that he gave the indication to you at one time and said that he has to fight to make the team and maybe that was exaggerated a little bit, he definitely had a spot on our team but he knows that we need him at his best, he knows that he is a big role model on our team which is one of the reasons why we made him an Assistant captain. We know that there is pressure on him and pressure on this group and he wants to do well. He has done everything he can over the summer and in camp to prepare himself for this season and new opportunity and I am sure he will do it." (NYR)
10/11/16 | Nash said today:
- On how he found out, "AV called me into the office and that is usually never a good thing but for once it was. He expressed to me that he talked with Ryan McDonagh that they wanted to fill a void left by Marty. Tough shoes to fill after him but I'll do my best." (NYR)
- Does it add pressure, "I always put pressure on myself no matter what. I've had a letter on my jersey since I was 19 years old in Columbus. One of the reasons why I came here was for leadership and whether he you have a letter or not you need to be a leader in the dressing room." (NYR)
4:39PM: On naming Nash alternate captain, Alain Vigneault said today "There is no doubt that we need a healthy Rick Nash and him playing to his strength. We also named him assistant captain today officially. After talking with Ryan McDonagh and having not replaced Marty St. Louis, Ryan and I discussed different possibilities and felt that Rick, with his past experience, would be a great fit and help to him. It was officially named this morning and I am confident that, I don't want to say that added pressure but the added importance, you don't need a letter on your sweater to be a leader but I am hoping that this will be getting Rick even more involved than he has been in the past and every time he has been prodded or challenged he has responded well and we are going to need him to respond well. (NYR)
2:45PM: Nash said that it's an honor to be named alternate captain and an honor to wear a letter for an organization like the Rangers that has had "so many great leaders." (NY Post)
