10/5/17 | 5PM: Earlier today, Vigneault spoke about Chytil and said, "I see a young man full of potential. Will he be able to continue to show us what he did in training camp? Time will tell and we will take it day by day. We are playing him with pretty good players to show us that he can play."
He added, "I looked at him skating around the ice today, I don't know if he knows that this is our first game. He was just smiling and having a great time and soaking it in. Kids sometimes don't know the pressure they are under and they just play, it seems how he was this morning. Probably didn't expect to be here in Game 1 but he's here and having a blast and hopefully he can come in and play well for us."
10/5/17 | 10:40AM: Zuccarello said that he is doing what he can to make Chytil comfortable and that both he and Nash talk with him and are going to do what they can to "make sure he has fun playing his game." (NY Post)
Zuccarello said that there are things Chytil has to learn about playing in his own zone but that in the offensive zone they want him to "be creative and let his skill take over at the other end. We'll read off him and try to make it as easy as we can for him. He just has to let his talent take over when we have the puck." (NY Post)
Alain Vigneault said on Wednesday that Chytil might get some time on the PK because he is a good skater and has good quickness.
10/4/17 | Filip Chytil spent the Rangers trip to Lake Placid with line mate Rick Nash as his roommate. (NY Post)
Nash said that he spent the trip to Lake Placid "showing him the ropes" and said that Chytil has a "mature" and"complete game." (NY Post)
Alain Vigneault said that the Rangers will get a "real good read" on Chytil and that putting him on a line with Mats Zuccarello and Nash will help Chytil on and off the ice. (NY Post)
Both Vigneault and Jeff Gorton said that Chytil will be evaluated on a day to day basis.
Adam Rotter: Nash is the elder statesmen up front and definitely can relate to Chytil coming to a team as an 18-year old and being expected to play a big role. Nash has shown to be more of a lead by example type of player in his time with the Rangers and he, along with Mats Zuccarello, are the perfect players to be working with Chytil. Nash was obviously a first overall pick and came to the NHL as an 18-year old and Zuccarello is able to provide another perspective of a small player that came to the NHL, had some ups and downs but developed into one of the Rangers most consistent scorers. I still don't know how long Chytil will be around the Rangers this season but you have to hope that he takes what he is learning from Nash and Zuccarello and will carry it with him moving forward.
