11/18/17 | Asked about McDonagh on Monday, Alain Vigneault said "I told him after the Boston game that he looked powerful on the ice, being able to push away from people to break out, to get out of our end and in his 1 on 1 battles against key opponents, tough opponents, he was powerful, strong, he was winning those and that is how we need Mac to play."
With his assist on Saturday, Ryan McDonagh has points in three straight games and points in six of eight since returning to the Rangers lineup.
Alain Vigneault said on Saturday that he thought McDonagh played one of his best games and brought "a lot of energy."
From the Rangers Game Notes on Saturday:
- McDonagh is tied for second among NHL defensemen in primary assists this season (10), and the only NHL defenseman who has recorded more primary assists than McDonagh is Kevin Shattenkirk (12).
- McDonagh is tied for seventh among NHL defensemen - and leads Rangers defensemen - in assists this season (18).
Adam Rotter: I thought that the past two games, LA and Boston, have been two of McDonagh's best not only since he came back from injury but of the season. The analytics don't really back that up, but, to me, he has looked much more like himself and the player the Rangers need him to be. McDonagh is so important to the Rangers and if he is healthy and able to play the way we have seen in the past then the Rangers have one of the best defensemen in the league.
