On the first day of training camp, Alain Vigneault was asked if he was going to have Ryan McDonagh and Kevin Shattenkirk paired together on defense.
Vigneault said that early on he was going to mix and match and see how things played out in the preseason.
After a few days of practice together last week, Vigneault confirmed that Shattenkrik and McDonagh will start the season paired on defense.
He said that he has liked what he has seen from the duo and that Shattenkirk's ability to move the puck fits in really well with McDonagh's game. (NY Post)
McDonagh said that he thinks the pair will work "well together" and improved as a duo in a "short amount of time." (NY Post)
He said that Shattenkirk is patient with the make, makes the right decisions and puts in an area where the Rangers keep keep possession and create offense. (NY Post)
