Ondrej Pavelec will start for the second straight game bringing up some memories of last season when Antti Raanta made four straight starts for the Rangers with Henrik Lundqvist as his back up.
During Raanta's stretch of starts, Alain Vigneault said that Raanta deserved to play but that the Rangers were still Lundqvist's team.
Prior to that four game stretch, Lundqvist was 12-8-1 with a save percentage of .912.
He then had a stretch in January where he gave up 16 goals but followed that stretch up with a 13-8-3 record and a save percentage of .920.
Adam Rotter: This is the new normal with Henrik Lundqvist and it's why having a backup goalie is so important. Lundqvist will still be the guy that plays the big games for the Rangers and the one starting in the playoffs, but he is having these ups and downs during the regular season and the Rangers need someone in net that they can trust.
It's only been one win for Pavelec, and against a team that doesn't have a win, but the Rangers should ride him as long as he can win, the same way that they did Raanta during that stretch. Wins are the most important thing right now and history has shown, and it did last year, that Henrik Lundqvist will be there when the Rangers need him the most.
