Alain Vigneault said yesterday that Jesper Fast has been skating, feeling much better and that he is expected to take part in the Rangers next full practice, which for now is scheduled for Thursday.
Vigneault said that Fast has been skating in a non-contact jersey lately but will be in a regular jersey at the next practice.
For Dan Girardi, Vigneault said that he had the "vacuum" used to heal his ankle taken off and that he is also scheduled to skate at the next practice.
Larry Brooks wrote that there is no timetable yet on a return for Girardi. (NY Post)
Brooks wrote that if/when Kevin Klein is able to return from his lower-back issue that he will likely fall into 5th on the Rangers depth chart of right-shot defensemen, behind Ryan McDonagh, Nick Holden, Dan Girardi and Steven Kampfer. (NY Post)
Adam Rotter: Fast should be back soon, if not this weekend then very likely next week for the Devils/Isles back to back. I'm still guessing it will be Tanner Glass who comes out of the lineup when Fast returns, but Alain Vigneault doesn't always go with what most think is the conventional choice.
When Girardi comes back he will likely replace Steven Kampfer and likely skate on the Rangers third pair, a role that may very well be better suited for where Girardi is at this stage of his career.
As for Klein, this was supposed to be a day to day thing that has turned into him missing a bunch of games. I think that when/if he gets healthy he becomes the Rangers 7th/8th defenseman and won't see much ice time unless another injury occurs.
