As of 3PM, the NHL is now in a roster freeze for all teams except for Vegas.
Bob McKenzie confirmed that the Rangers did not make a trade before today's deadline.
Vegas will be eligible to make trades with any/each team starting tomorrow at 10AM, but teams other than Vegas can not announce trades made with each other.
Any trade that Vegas makes will be announced on Wednesday during the expansion draft.
This trade freeze lasts until Thursday (6/22) at 8AM.
Adam Rotter: While some trades were made, this deadline seemed like a tough one to get deals done by because of protection related issues with the expansion draft. The Rangers will likely still be talking to teams and continue to work on any potential deals for when the roster freeze ends on Thursday as well as with the draft coming on Friday. Calgary's move for Mike Smith makes a little dent in the potential market for Antti Raanta, but it could open up Arizona as a potential trade partner for him.
The other part of this roster freeze is that the Rangers didn't re-sign Brendan Smith to fill the open protected spot they have. I thought it was possible that after Girardi was bought out that Smith could be signed and fill the spot Girardi had. Smith certainly can still be re-signed, but Vegas now also has the opportunity to talk with him. Nick Holden will likely be used to fill that open protected slot.
