11:18AM: Pierre LeBrun indicates that Vigneault's extension pays him north of $4 million per year which puts him behind Mike Babcock and Joel Quenneville for highest paid coach.
Vigneault's initial deal with the Rangers was five-years and $10 million.
The Rangers officially announced the extension earlier today.

The Rangers have the 5th most points in the NHL since Vigneault joined the Rangers in 2013-14 and he has made the playoffs in each of his first three seasons as coach. (NY Post)
Adam Rotter: This seems like a no-brainer type of move to me. Vigneault has been a great coach for the Rangers, navigated some tough stretches, expects a lot out of his players and has been able to integrate youth, speed and skill into the Rangers lineup. He isn't a perfect coach and sometimes makes some interesting decisions but more often than not he pushes the right buttons for this team.
One thing to note about this contact extension though is that ultimately it doesn't mean anything other than the Rangers will owe him money through 2020. While I do think that he is very secure in his job, the Rangers have shown a history to eat money and make changes when they feel it's necessary. One thing to remember is that John Tortorella reportedly signed an extension in early 2013 and was then fired in May of 2013. I don't see that happening with AV as the Rangers moved on from Torts to change the style of play and direction of the team. Vigneault and Jeff Gorton seem very much on the same page about how they want this team to play, fast, and seem to have a very good relationship.
