The goal was later overturned as Oscar Lindberg was skating past Jimmy Howard and inadvertently had his skate come up and hit Howard in the mask, lifting it enough to create a disturbance that impacted Howard's ability to play the puck.
The referees overturned the call and the NHL Situation Room said that the ref determined that Lindberg interfered with Howard before the puck crossed the line.
Howard's skates were in the blue paint/crease but it appeared as if his mask/head was outside of the crease when contact was made.
Joe Micheletti said on the NBC broadcast of the game that it appeared Howard tripped Lindberg with his stick, leading to Lindberg going off balance and making contact.
The Rangers ended up winning the game in OT, 1-0 on a goal from Kevin Klein.
After the game last night, Alain Vigneault said "then they told us that Antti's feet were in the blue but that his head was outside the blue paint, so it was involuntary contact because Antti's face was out of the blue."
