11/23 4:57PM: According to the list that the NHL has sent to the teams, Rick Nash will need to be protected by the Rangers in the expansion draft. (Sportsnet)
Chris Johnston explains that Nash's contract stipulates that the no-move aspect of Nash's contract, which was downgraded to a no-trade in 2015, is still in place when it comes to being "waived or loaned" which is how the league is interpreting things in relation to the expansion draft. (Sportsnet)
The Rangers will also have to protect Henrik Lundqvist, Marc Staal and Dan Girardi due to their no-move clauses. (Sportsnet)
Teams will have the option of protecting 8 skaters and 1 goalie or 7 forwards, 3 defensemen and 1 goalie.
Even with the Rangers being forced to protect Nash, the team can still protect Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello, JT Miller, MIka Zibanejad and Kevin Hayes. (Cap Friendly)
The Rangers will lose one player in the expansion draft.
