Prior to Tuesday's game against the Islanders, Alain Vigneault was asked about Pavel Buchnevich and responded "I've liked him." (NYR)
Vigneault continued that Buchnevich has been creating some Grade-A offensive opportunities despite not being able to finish. (NYR)
He added, "he has, in my estimation, been poised on the power play, defensively he is working extremely hard to come back and help and implement some of the stuff we have been working on. His English is better than he lets on. I've liked a lot of the things I have seen from him. He seems like a very coachable young man and he certainly has a lot of upside."
Buchnevich has an assist, a plus-three rating, nine shots on goal and an average of 14:41 per game in three preseason games.
Adam Rotter: You can see the talent and the skill when Buchnevich has the puck. As expected it's still a little raw but I think he has shown that he can start the season in the NHL. I think it's more than likely that he will, possibly as the 13th forward, but Buchnevich doesn't have to pass through waivers to go to Hartford which gives the Rangers flexibility. I'm not crazy about the idea of Buchnevich not playing, but there is something to be said about keeping him as the 13th forward for a week or two as kind of an extended training camp where he can work closely with the coaches and continue his adjustment.
