Jimmy Vesey scored the game tying goal in the third period as well as the game winning goal in the shootout.
Vesey spoke after the game and said (NYR Game Notes):
On the game-tying goal…"I think it was a good play all the way from our own end out. I actually ended up as the low forward in our own end and was able to pick off a puck and get it up to Haysie [Hayes] who made a nice play to Rick [Nash]. I was kind of just coming in late and might have got lost in coverage by Vancouver. Rick made a great pass and I tried to bring it to my backhand and get it up. I figured [Jacob] Markstrom might still be sliding one way."
On if he was thinking about what he was going to do when he got the puck…"You have a million things going through your mind when you get a chance like that. Your eyes always light up and you are playing a scenario in your head before it even happens. But no, I didn't even have time to yell for the puck and it was on my tape and instinct just took over and thankfully I got it over his pad."
On if going later in the shootout helped him score the winner…"I think it actually helped me, definitely. I saw Nasher [Nash] pretty successful with the shot and I don't think ice conditions are very good at that point of the game. It looked like their goalie [Markstrom] was deep in his crease so the guys that had success for us were shooting and I just tried once again to get it over his glove."
