Mika Zibanejad scored his 100th career goal and second of the game to win Wednesady's game for the Rangers in OT:
Zibanejad spoke after the game and said (NYR Game Notes):
- On tonight's game…"It was a fun game. A lot of chances, good battle out there. It's always nice when you get away with a win from a game like this."
- On whether this was one of the wilder games he has been a part of, with the penalty shot and ending…"I was a little shocked. I didn't know about that rule, but that sequence right there, Georgiev made a great save and got us a chance in overtime. It was good to see the puck go in and to get those two points."
- On his game-winning goal…"I kind of came late into the zone. Kreids (Kreider) rolled up and I think my guy went to him and he made a great pass. I didn't really know what to do. I wanted to pass, but I ran out of room, just tried to get it on net and it somehow trickled in."
From the Rangers Game Notes on Zibanejad, "tallied two goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime, led all skaters (and established a single-game career-high) with nine shots on goal, and posted a plus-two rating. Zibanejad's goal in overtime was the 100th goal of his NHL career. In addition, he recorded his 22nd goal of the 2017-18 season in tonight's contest, and his 22 goals are a new career-high (his previous career-high was 21 in 2015-16). He has also established career-highs in power play goals (11) and power play points (18) in 2017-18, and he leads the team in both categories this season. He has tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in the last two games, and he has also recorded nine points (five goals, four assists) and a plus-seven rating over the last seven games. Zibanejad's nine shots on goal are the most a Ranger has registered in one game this season."
