The NHL announced on Saturday that former Ranger Wayne Gretzky would be the coach of Ryan McDonagh and Metropolitan Division All-Stars in today's All-Star game.
Gretzky replaces former Rangers coach and current Columbus coach John Tortorella. who had to miss All-Star weekend due to one of his family dogs being ill.
McDonagh said that he is a little disappointed that Tortorella isn't at All-Star weekend and said that it would have been a fun dynamic to see the normally intense Tortorella in this kind of setting. (Newsday)
He added that Tortorella was a great coach for him as a young player and that he learned a lot about preparation and staying in the moment from Torts. (Newsday)
