Alain Vigneault met with the media following yesterday's win over Vancouver and said (NYR Game Notes, NYR):
On the excitement of today's shootout…"It was a positive turnout. Going into the shootout, I was going to shoot first, but Hank came up to me and told me to let them shoot first. Hank was on top of his game today so I trusted him on that. He made some big saves, and the guys got him a couple goals. We'll take the two points and not say a word."
On the importance of Jesper Fast's goal…"There's no doubt everyone in our room was aware of our first period today. They had about six scoring chances, all grade A. We didn't generate much. That goal at the end of the second period helped us get some energy and start to make a couple more plays in the third period. At the end of the day, what I can say about today's game is sometimes good teams find ways to win games when they don't play their best. That was definitely the case today."
On Desharnais, "it's not an easy situation for him tonight. He's been sitting out a couple of games, we haven't had a lot of practice time. We are down going into the third and shortening up the bench and just went with 10 guys that I felt were a little bit better tonight."
Was McDonagh reevaluated, "because it was an afternoon game, I haven't talked to my staff, medical staff. I don't know, I haven't talked to anybody."
On the team's strong play at home recently…"We need to have a good feeling, and that's what we have right now in our building. Preparation was good today. Our first period might have been a little different than what we're used to, but our guys are feeling good about themselves and getting a lot of positive energy."
