As part of a series, The Hockey News is looking at how teams may look heading into the 2019-20 season based upon players currently in the organization.
They have the Rangers lineup for the 2019-20 season as:
- Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Pavel Buchnevich
- Jimmy Vesey, JT Miller, Kevin Hayes
- Matt Puempel, Lias Andersson, Jesper Fast
- Adam Tambellini, Boo Nieves, Filip Chytil
Ryan McDonagh & Kevin Shattenkirk, Brady Skjei & Brendan Smith, Neal Pionk & Anthony DeAngelo.
Henrik Lundqvist and Brandon Halverson.
The Rangers who currently have contracts through the 2019-20 season include Zibanejad, Kreider, Fast, Shattenkirk, Brendan Smith, Lundqvist and Marc Staal.
Adam Rotter: On the surface, especially on D and in the top-six, this roster greatly resembles the roster that the Rangers will go with into this season. These kinds of lists and such are interesting and, of course, don't/can't take into account trades or free agency, two things that the Rangers have used to add big pieces and shape their roster.
The Rangers started their retooling last summer up front, continued it this summer on defense and will likely use next summer to make additional moves before hopefully setting things up for a strong run into the next decade. Miller, Hayes, Vesey and Skjei all need new contracts next summer and how the Rangers handle that will give us a look at what the core heading into 19-20 could be.
