Free Agency opens up in the NHL today at 12:01PM with the Rangers expected to have over $28 million in cap space, for a roster that includes Brendan Smith, Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil but not Matt Beleskey or Peter Holland. (CapFriendly)
The Rangers have been linked to Toronto forward Leo Komarov as well as Ryan Reaves though Reaves is believed to be staying with Vegas.
They have also been linked to other bottom-six wingers to provide depth.
11:48AM: The NHL has announced that the following Rangers are free agents:
UFA: John Albert, Paul Carey, David Desharnais, Carl Klingberg, Cody McLeod, Ondrej Pavelec, Daniel Catenacci, Ryan Sproul, Adam Tambellini.
RFA: Chris Bigras, Steven Fogarty, John Gilmour, Kevin Hayes, Vladislav Namestnikov, Boo Nieves, Rob O'Gara, Brady Skjei, Ryan Spooner, Jimmy Vesey.
Adam Rotter: This is most certainly a different kind of July 1 for the Rangers than we've had lately. It's unlikely that any big ticket players are coming to the Rangers or that they will sign anyone that would be expected to slot in anywhere above the bottom-six. i think that there are still moves that the Rangers are going to make, but those might not happen until later this week or next when the dam finally breaks and teams that miss out on certain guys will circle back to the Rangers or the teams that did sign big ticket players work with the Rangers to provide some cap relief.
