Jeff Gorton said in June that he believes the Rangers have internal options, Alexander Georgiev and Martin
Gorton said this week that Georgiev looked "good" during his time with the Rangers this past season but that when it comes to the back up situation right now, they will "let it all play out." (MSG)
Current UFA goalies include Kari Lehtonen, Steve Mason, last year's back up Ondrej Pavelec, Anders Lindback and Jeff Glass.
Matt O'Connor, who played under David Quinn at BU for two seasons, and who the Rangers had interest in as a free agent a few years ago, is also a UFA.
Adam Rotter: Georgiev is the most interesting option because of his youth and how he played for the Rangers last year, but I just can't shake the feeling that he would be better off as the starter in Hartford and coming as the back up next season. At the same time, as the Rangers bring in youth, Georgiev could make 20-25 starts this season and work with Benoit Allaire everyday and that may ultimately be better for his development. There aren't many options out there and with the possible exception of Steve Mason, no one really fits the bill of someone who Benoit Allaire could revive and give a second chance to. As of now it appears as if Georgiev and Mazanec will battle in training camp but I could see the Rangers also inviting someone like Dustin Tokarski or Anders Lindback to camp just to add to the competition.
